October Is Mental Health & ADHD Awareness Month: The Story Behind The Overthinkers Club Overthinkers Club

October is both Mental Health Awareness Month and ADHD Awareness Month, and it feels like the right time to come back to why I started The Overthinkers Club in the first place.

Where it started

This brand started when I got sober and suddenly had to learn what to do with all of the feelings I had spent so long trying to escape. I was learning how to live with my anxiety instead of running from it. At the same time, I was grieving the version of my life I thought I was going to have, questioning myself and my abilities, and moving through spaces where I was told I was difficult or hard to work with.

I internalized a lot of that. For a long time, I believed it.

Making somewhere that felt like home

I wanted somewhere that felt like home, so I started creating it, first for myself and then for all of us. Creating gave me somewhere healthy to put my energy. Little by little, it helped me believe in myself again.

Every time someone connected with something I made, wore one of our reminders, or shared their own story with me, I felt a little less alone. Some of you told me you felt seen by this little club. That is what keeps me going.

What I've learned about my brain

Learning that I'm neurodivergent this year gave me more language to understand parts of myself I was still trying to change. Maybe I wasn't difficult, I just needed to understand my brain instead of trying to fight it.

I'm still learning, and I'm still building that confidence. Mental health isn't a before and after. It ebbs and flows, even when you're building a life you're incredibly proud of. Some days are much easier than others.

Why this club exists

The Overthinkers Club is here to remind me and you that our minds deserve kindness: a place to feel a little less alone, a place to share reminders with both strangers and ourselves, and a place to land softly when the world feels like too much.

Check on your people

So this month, and the next, and the one after that, check on your people. Even the strong ones. Even the busy ones. Even the ones who seem okay.

And if you're the person who needs the reminder right now: be kind to your mind.

Our club isn't exclusive. We're here to welcome you in with open arms. You belong here.
